Crow Vending Machine

"The goal of this project is to create a device that will autonomously train crows. Initially we're training them to deposit dropped coins they find on the ground in exchange for peanuts, but eventually we hope to be able to train them to search and rescue, or to collect garbage, or who knows!" --http://www.wireless.is/crows/

Curious of that myself, to my knowledge there hasn’t been documented study done on cognitive abilities of seagulls, they do spend a lot of their time in and around humans just like crows do, but certainly haven’t been persecuted like crows which selectively added to their renowned higher intelligence. A good question.

It’s amazing how these crows are feverishly working on the problem while seagulls are just goin about their biz not doing much to even attempt to do so. I’d love some ‘on a tripod and with a big zoom’ footage next time.

marcinpiastadotcom its better crows work with us then them getting SHOT and killed by ignorant rednecks. Crows enjoy the cognitive process and it’s something they do naturally. Nor is it garbage, they are being trained to collect coins. This is only helping the survival of the species.

This benefits the crows, too, you know? It’s not like they’re training the crows to collect garbage and stuff for nothing in return. And a lot of people do “collect their own fucking garbage”, but there are still those who don’t, and maybe we can make up for what those people don’t do while feeding animals in the process. I don’t think it’s a bad idea at all.

Crows – black, seagulls – white. I guess it works the opposite way in the animal world.

the crows obviously respond to the machine but what about all those seagulls? i wonder if they ever figure it out aswell.

video is too shaky (tripod?) and the camera not close enough to really see what the crows are doing.
