vending machine routes, has anyone ever purchased one and have you made any money with it?

I keep seeing ads in the Business Opportunities section of my newspaper's classifieds, for established vending machine routes. One ad I saw the other day offered 30 established machines and inventory for $9000, the potential was there to make several hundred dollars a day. I know if it sounds too good to be true it is, and there is no such thing as easy money, I'm just wondering- has anyone actually purchased one of these routes and did you make any money?

    What is the gross profit from this particular route? How long has this particular route been established? Why are they selling this route? The cost of gas is only getting higher. How much driving around will you have to do in order to keep the machines filled? How often do they get broken into? What do you mean by several hundred dollars? Is it 3, 4 or 5 hundred? Let assume it’s only 3 hundred. That would mean each machine is bringing in at least 10 dollars a day. That is a lot of gum/candy per machine. Sounds to good to be true.

    First I want to say that I run vending routes and they are a very profitable business – IF you do it correctly.

    Those ads are scams. Yes there are people that sell routes in the newspaper but the ones you are referring to were placing by Biz-Opp sales guys. What they do is say how they’ll place machines for you and give you a bunch of “industry numbers” that are completely misleading. And of course they want you to spend $25,000+ for the machines.

    Always buy used equipment and never obligate yourself to buying a couple dozen until you’ve made 4 or 5 work.
