First I want to say that I run vending routes and they are a very profitable business - IF you do it correctly.

Those ads are scams. Yes there are people that sell routes in the newspaper but the ones you are referring to were placing by Biz-Opp sales guys. What they do is say how they'll place machines for you and give you a bunch of "industry numbers" that are completely misleading. And of course they want you to spend $25,000+ for the machines.

Always buy used equipment and never obligate yourself to buying a couple dozen until you've made 4 or 5 work.

What is the gross profit from this particular route? How long has this particular route been established? Why are they selling this route? The cost of gas is only getting higher. How much driving around will you have to do in order to keep the machines filled? How often do they get broken into? What do you mean by several hundred dollars? Is it 3, 4 or 5 hundred? Let assume it's only 3 hundred. That would mean each machine is bringing in at least 10 dollars a day. That is a lot of gum/candy per machine. Sounds to good to be true.
